Iridaea Exfoliator

Organic Ocean Mud Is The Perfect Sphere for Exfoliation

Seaflora incorporates hand-harvested, organic ocean mud as an environmentally safe exfoliation ingredient in several of our professional and retail products.

For face, in order of most abrasive to least: Iridaea Exfoliator, Potent Sea Kelp Exfoliator, and Sea Therapy Refining Facial Polish.
For Body, the Wild Rockweed Exfoliant induces a head to toe Seaflora glow. Especially good on the thigh area as cellulite treatment and an excellent holistic solution for body acne.

Powerful ocean movements allow the absorption of rich trace minerals, while the ever-pounding wave action smooths and rounds out each and every grain until it’s a perfect sphere. What this means is that Seaflora’s ocean mud makes for the “perfect exfoliant” for even the most sensitive of skin types.

It’s safest for the environment without chemicals or artificial abrasions. Seaflora has never used microbeads. Otherwise listed as nylon, polyethylene (PE), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), nylon, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polypropylene (PP).

Microbeads, those tiny plastic beads skincare companies use in personal small, solid, manufactured plastic particles that are less than 5mm and don’t degrade or dissolve in water. Not captured by most water treatment systems, they are washed down drains and end up in rivers, lakes and oceans.

Once in the water, microbeads can have a damaging effect on marine life, the environment and human health. This is due to their composition, ability to adsorb toxins and potential to transfer up the marine food chain. These tiny plastics persist in the environment as they are almost impossible to remove. The best way to reduce their impact is to prevent them from entering the environment.

This includes as an abrasive or exfoliant, a bulking agent, for controlled timed release of active ingredients, and to prolong shelf life. They are also a relatively cheap ingredient. The scientific research is clear; microbeads raise health and safety concerns about the environmental impacts on our lakes, rivers and oceans.

So very different our natural ocean mud is, in that it’s hand-harvested, and like our wild seaweeds, it’s inspected and organic. It’s granular, light weight and contains mineral elements to efficiently retain moisture. Its composition of non-soluble silicates, carbonates and soluble minerals, acts to hold heat. When you use gentle circular motions to spread it on your body, you are improving circulation. Ocean mud’s warming characteristics are good for cellulite reduction, quicker cell turnover and holistic, effective body acne solution.

Ocean mud works well for body treatments, but it’s especially effective for the gentle cells on your face.  Think of it as the ocean’s micro-derma polisher. Suitable for all ages, all skin types and with gentle pressure and circular movements, it cleanses and removes dirt particles, impurities and toxins. It opens pores, while favouring the passage of minerals.

My favourite is Iridaea Exfoliator. Great for mature skin, (like mine) that is also normal/combination. We call it nature’s microdermabrasion. Think of it as ‘dermal gymnastics’. The result is a product that is robust in both action and results.

All our ocean mud exfoliating products are for both professional spa treatments and at-home skincare regimes. Visit Seaflora spa locator, for a spa near you that features our thalassotherapy treatments.
